Healing with Hope Brings Lifesaving Health Care to Bsaba and Beyond

Latter-day Saints work with Lebanon NGO to provide access to health care

In Bsaba village, 10 miles south of Beirut, a vital new health care center has transformed access to medical care for a community in need. Healing with Hope, an initiative of the Loubnaniyoun nongovernmental organization (NGO), has converted a once-empty, one-story building owned by the village into a fully functioning medical clinic. The renovation and medical equipping of the Bsaba Primary Healthcare Center was funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, while Loubnaniyoun oversaw the construction and operations.

The center now provides essential medical services to Bsaba’s 5,000 residents, as well as 55,000 people from neighboring communities, filling a gap that had left many without reliable care. It houses five specialized clinics — gynecology, pediatrics, family medicine, cardiology, and ear, nose and throat — offering critical support to vulnerable residents.

For years, Bsaba’s residents and their neighbors have faced devastating struggles brought on by Lebanon’s economic collapse and the steep devaluation of its currency. Goods that cost one Lebanese pound in 2019 now sell for around 60 pounds, a stark example of the financial crisis. The collapse has also overwhelmed Lebanon’s health care system, making services unaffordable or unavailable. In this context, the clinic built through the collaboration of Loubnaniyoun and the Church of Jesus Christ is more than a building; it is a lifeline, restoring access to quality medical care.

Many view the opening of the clinic as a miracle. Loubnaniyoun began the renovation of the center at the end of February 2025 and was able to hold an opening ceremony on July 24. To provide affordable care, physicians donate their time, the Bsaba Municipality covers utility expenses, the Ministry of Health donates medications, and Loubnaniyoun oversees daily operations. Through this generous and ongoing collaboration, residents now receive excellent health care at a minimal cost.

Maroun Akiki, Middle East/Africa North Area self-reliance manager for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, observed, “The Bsaba Primary Healthcare Center is bringing real hope to the people. I could see it in their eyes at the opening ceremony. I am deeply grateful for the chance to witness the difference the Church has made through cooperation with such an efficient and caring organization.”

Dr. Lara Jreijiri, an obstetrician-gynecologist, has provided treatment at Bsaba Primary Healthcare Center since its opening. She offered praise for the center, noting, “I can honestly say that the service provided is comparable to some of the best health care centers in the country, with top equipment. As I hear from the patients I examine, such a center was much needed in the area, as they lacked these services before the opening.”

Patient Lara Fares expressed her gratitude after a visit to the clinic: “From the moment I walked in, I was welcomed with respect and kindness, and the treatment from all the staff was excellent. As for the doctors,” she continued, “they were skilled, competent and gentle as they helped me. I truly felt that I was in safe hands.”

Since its opening, the center has served over 250 patients, many of whom were in urgent need of critical care and had suffered for years without any medical attention. The Healing with Hope project, which Loubnaniyoun envisioned and brought about with the support of the Church, is already blessing many lives.

Nadine Daher, president of Loubnaniyoun, observed that the positive feedback and gratitude from the community have been so encouraging that it has inspired plans to expand the clinic’s services. “We are working towards including additional specialities, such as urology, mental health, gastroenterology, dental and orthopedics to respond to the needs of the community,” she said.

Daher also noted with appreciation the contribution of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Bsaba Primary Healthcare Center, saying, “None of this would have been possible without the generous support of the Church of Jesus Christ. We express our heartfelt gratitude.” A large plaque noting the Church’s participation in the project hangs on the wall in the reception area of the clinic. Loubnaniyoun also gifted a beautiful statue to the Church at the opening ceremony, to commemorate a warm and productive friendship.

Together, Loubnaniyoun and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have turned a vision into reality — a clinic that not only provides care but also restores hope across Bsaba and its neighboring communities.
