The Church has a comprehensive program for teaching children called Primary which was founded in 1878. Its purpose is to teach children the gospel of Jesus Christ and help them learn to live its principles.
In April of 2016, Sister Joy D. Jones was called as the general president of the Primary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Sister Bonnie H. Cordon and Sister Cristina B. Franco are her first and second counselors.
